Escribá was visibly emotional as he stated that last season’s economic failures by the club, concluding with the club finishing 14th in La Liga only to be relegated the following week due to outstanding debts, had left him exhausted and while he leaves with many wounds, he will always be grateful to the club that gave him the opportunity to be a first team manager in 2012.
Escribá stated that he was very “grateful” of the opportunity the club had given him but he leaves “exhausted” and “with many wounds to heal that would be difficult to mend here.”
Escribá did not confirm reports that he had already agreed to take over the bench at Getafe, but that there was “one final detail to take care of,” and also confirmed that president Juan Anguix made one last attempt to convince him to stay but his agent Manuel Garcia Quilon “knew the decision I’d made some time ago.”
Escribá went on to add that it was necessary for a fresh face come in to manager the club with the energy he no longer possessed but hopes that he can one day return as manager of the club when they are in a “more stable” position.
“It’s necessary that another coach comes in with the strength I longer have to continue here.”
Escribá concluded by stating that he hopes the court will rule in favour of Elche and that they are allowed to stay in the Primera.
